Day 3 - Different People

Day 3
I am thankful for all the different types of people.

It takes people of all kind to make things happen.
Do you like working on computers? Do you like working with people? Or perhaps you prefer to be a lone in a focused quiet environment? Are you able to work in a high stress setting like an Emergency Room, prepared for the worst?
What if we put someone with high energy who loses focus quickly to do your grandmother's open heart surgery? Or what if we put a focused surgeon with little social skills on Saturday Night Live to entertain you?

Often we get caught up in judging each other and our differences that we forget to realize that our differences are needed.

So today I am thankful for all the different types of people.

Day 2 of Thankfulness - my family

Day 2
My Familia

If you know me, you know I'm big on family. My family consists of the two who started it all, my parents, John and Barb. My parents have been married for 36 years and are just as silly as the day they met.
I fall 3rd in our 4 siblings.
My brother Tom and his wife Kari have 3 children: Drew, Ben and Faith
My sister Ruth and her husband Rich have 2 children: Luke and Avery.
My little brother Michael (aka Lar) is 25 and dating.

With our family growing and now up to 5 grandchildren, it's an occasion when we're all together.

My parents both came from rather large families - Mom was one of the babies of six and Dad was one of the oldest of seven. I have around 20 cousins on each side of the family.

Family teaches you many things. Mostly, these are the people you are stuck with so you better learn to forgive and move on. Unlike friends who you can have a fight with and go a while without speaking and avoid, family is unavoidable (eventually) and you're stuck with them. Resolution is a must.

You share the last name and so to some point, a reputation. Respect your family by keeping your name clean.

My family is constantly helping each other out. There is no marks or record of who helped who and when. It's just something we know as a duty. Whether it's gathering wood together to prep for winter, nursing your sister-in-law back to health, taking the kids so you can have a date night, we've always been there for each other.
I'm very glad my Dad has instilled this "giving to each other" value in our family.

When I shot my deer this last month, my family was the first one there celebrating with me.
It wasn't the best shot yet they gave me more praise than deserved.
They were also right there when it came to track and gut the deer. I wouldn't have wanted to share the experience with anybody else.

Day 1 - November Thankfulness

I'm jumping on the bandwagon for jotting down something I am thankful for. I am going to shoot to do this for everyday in November.

Here goes Day 1...

With my recent deer hunting accident, I am thankful for just a broken ankle.
A lot of accident with tree stands result in paralyzation, broken necks and even death.

It has been a long two weeks already but like I said last week, I'd rather take crutches for 6 weeks then a wheelchair for a lifetime.
I'm trying to work on not complaining and focus on the good in this accident.

No one starts off being excellent.

Oh this is so true! Give yourself a little space (and time!) to learn. We always want it done quick and easy but like they say, good things take time.

Don't complain; just work harder.

Yeah yeah, I complain about my job just like everybody else.
With that being said, there are many times that I could complain but I realize how lucky I am to have the position I do, so I just shut my mouth and work hard. I realize my value and what I bring to the table. I recently saw someone complaining about their job and that someone else had gotten a raise of her. This is one of those situations where the truth hurts; you have to ask yourself the cold, hard, raw question of, "what is my value to this company?" Could someone else do my job just as good as me? Before you open your mouth to complain next time, stop and ask yourself these questions.

50 Days of Transformation - Small Group - Basic Info

Hey All!
I just wanted to give you a little information on our Small Group series for 2014! Here's a short blurb from Saddleback's website.

Starting in January, thousands of churches across America will begin Pastor Rick’s new seven-week small group study, Transformed. This exciting new group study will show you how real change—lasting change—can actually happen in your life.
Every small group member will receive a free leatherette-bound workbook, which includes message notes, small group studies, personal goal-setting worksheets, and 50 daily inspirational readings.

50 Days of Transformation is a 7-session campaign that will guide and grow your church by exploring what the Bible has to say about every essential area of our lives:

1. Session 1: Transformed in My Spiritual Health.
2. Session 2: Transformed in My Physical Health
3. Session 3: Transformed in My Mental Health.
4. Session 4: Transformed in My Emotional Health.
5. Session 5: Transformed in My Relational Health.
6. Session 6: Transformed in My Financial Health.
7. Session 7: Transformed in My Vocational Health.

I have received the books in the mail and like last time, everyone is gifted one free of charge. So we can help Saddleback grow this area of their ministry, please join me to donate to Saddleback Church for their generosity. Donate to Saddleback Church here.

I will be starting a new (private) group on Facebook for online discussions, support and encouragement throughout these weeks. We will plan to meet 2x/month and updates on these meetings can also be found on this Facebook Group page. If you haven't received a private invite, here's how to join the group. If you have anyone who you know would like to join, please contact me!
Looking forward to diving into this Transformation with you!

Jesus Calling: January 6.

Reading my daily devotional (Jesus Calling, Sarah Young) this morning, I was reminded that although we go to the Lord with prayer concerns, we also need to go with him with positive expectations and trust that he knows whats best for us. He has plans for our lives far greater than what we do, we just need to put our trust in Him.
Hope your January 6th was great!
-SH
Come to Me with positive expectations, knowing that there is no limit to what I can accomplish.

Do not be discouraged by the fact that many of your prayers are yet unanswered.

Keep your eyes
 and mind
 wide open to all
 that I am doing
 in your life.

The mind of sinful man
is death,
but the mind controlled
by the Spirit
is life and peace.

SaraHHouse365 | Thank God for Problems?!

Thursday, January 2, 2014

The first step is never easy.

The first step is never easy.
The beginnings to good things are always the hardest, but it’s these hard times that pave the path to greatness.  Be strong and keep the faith.  It will be worth it in the end.  The greatest miracle of your success in life will not be that you finished, it will be that you found the strength and courage to begin.

And remember, it’s not that those who are strong never get weak in the knees, or that they never hold their breath before they embark…  It’s that while their knees are shaking, they force themselves to breathe and take the first step.
